Saturday, May 2nd | 11am - 4pm
“A Taste of Community” at Washington Street Park is an event designed to be like the events that used to happen at Washington Street Park “back in the day” like the “Silas Green from New Orleans” touring variety tent show.
We will have musicians, storytellers, history, magicians, a scavenger hunt, time period photo booth, a dunk tank, and more, including tasty food – cotton candy, popcorn, and delicious bake sale items prepared by the Parish of St. Helena, the Beaufort New Church of Christ, the First Presbyterian Church, and the Family Worship Center. We will also have a clothesline art display by Beaufort Elementary School and Robert Smalls Leadership Academy students.
In addition, we will have the unveiling of the South Carolina historical marker for Washington Street Park (SC-C-963) and the National Park Service will be on hand to share some of the history of this area, in particular the Northwest Quadrant and Old Commons Neighborhoods. Second Founding of America: Reconstruction Era will also be onsite and offering guided tours through the historic Stokes Cottage located at 1313 Congress Street.
It will truly be “A Taste of Community” that you do not want to miss!!!
